The name is homage to the Year of the Green Goat in the Chinese Zodiac and was sparked while enjoying time around a bonfire with good friends.
The owner, Erin Walsh grew up in a family-owned restaurant named Magpie Café in St. Charles, Missouri, where she started as a dishwasher at the age of 10. She continued her culinary career into her twenties and moved to New Orleans to learn patisserie and garde manger.
Her wanderlust took her to a 5 star restaurant in the Grand Canyon. Later she became a Head Chef on a small cruise ship that offered Alaskan wildlife excursions and tours of the Napa Valley and Washington wine regions. She lived in Florida several years where she picked up many Cuban culinary secrets while working as a baker at a Cuban restaurant.
When she “grew up”, she found herself at one of the largest retailers in the world and decided it was time to get back to her true passion. Cooking! So she started The Green Goat with her family of four. It is definitely a labor of love!
